My Mother kept a china cabinet. I remember staring into it for hours as a child making up stories about the things in it. Not a foreign country but a world all its own. One object was a spray from her wedding cake placed carefully on the shelf. I was off school with the measles once and left alone for a few hours - they did that then- the temptation to nibble at the icing flowers overwhelmed me. I certainly got into some trouble about that! I keep nick nacks in mine including a report card from 1964 stating that "Gail is beginning to gain control over her pencil" and my favourite childhood egg cup with a crack in it.
