Hwange village children
Hwange village children

In 1993 we visited Zimbabwe. Tourism was thriving but even then the economy was in trouble. In 2009 I painted the next 3 images. I wanted to publicise how bad things had become there. A wheelbarrow of money was needed to buy a loaf of bread. The game reserves were closing down in vast numbers . No tourism, no money and nothing for the people to eat so they were killing the very resources they had to get back on their feet. Their Government may have changed but life is still impossible for most. Infrastructure has broken down in the towns and poverty is overwhelming.

Location: Zimbabwe, Hwange

Details Acrylic on canvas - 61x51 cm -£650
