I missed the boat on this painting in a way. Spencer had painted a wooden helter skelter on Hampstead heath. Learning that the famous Carters Steam Fair was on the green in Holyport, I dashed over there to find them packing up and moving on. Although the helter skelter had been dismantled, I was intrigued by the methodical way every last piece had its place for storing and transportation. Quite a feat of organisation and one I am sure Spencer would have enjoyed watching.
